2023–Ongoing series | Archival ink pen on paper with acrylic colour and gold leaf | 30 x 21 cm

Resensitizing The Brown Narrative – this series began during my residency in Oxford, amidst the quiet corridors of the Ashmolean and the small local art shops. Surrounded by centuries of collected objects, I became aware of how the color brown carries different meanings across worlds. In the Western imagination, brown often reads as neutral or muted; in Eastern contexts, it resonates with earth, life, warmth, and memory. I wanted to explore this difference, to gently decolonize the way we see color, history, and nature.

Clay figures, miniatures, and sculptures whispered lives that were overlooked, and I let their presence guide my hand. Inspired by Prabhakar Barwe’s The Blank Canvas, I moved slowly, allowing the work to emerge through patience, attention, and care. Brown became more than a color—it became a space where histories, lives, and natural cycles converge, where memory, culture, and matter meet.

From this work, the series unfolded, each piece a meditation on perception, life, and the subtle power of overlooked shades. The series invites viewers to notice the textures of the world, to sense the warmth and depth in everyday materials, and to feel the connections between history, nature, and human experience. It is a quiet call to look closer, to question assumptions, and to see the ordinary with renewed attention and care.
